Giordani bows out of two “La fanciulla” dates at Lyric

The Lyric Opera of Chicago announced Monday that Marcello Giordani has withdrawn from two performances of Puccini’s La fanciulla del west for family reasons.

Giordani will be replaced in the Feb. 9 and 12 performances by Roy Cornelius Smith, a former Ryan Opera Center member.

The Sicilian tenor is expected to return to sing the final three performances of Puccini’s opera Feb. 15, 18 and 21.
