Gerstein to replace an ailing Pollini in May recital

Maurizio Pollini has canceled his U.S. tour for health reasons, including his May 13 Symphony Center Presents appearance.

Kirill Gerstein, winner of the 2010 Gilmore Artist Award, will replace Pollini for this date. Gerstein who made an acclaimed Chicago Symphony Orchestra debut in 2010, will perform Bach’s English Suite No. 6, Schumann’s Carnaval, Weber’s Invitation to the Dance and works by Busoni and Liszt. The program will also include Brad Mehldau’s Variations on a Melancholy Theme, commissioned by Gerstein.
