Riccardo Muti sailed through his surgery Monday morning for an inguinal hernia, said a Chicago Symphony Orchestra spokeswoman this afternoon.

The operation, which took place in Italy, prevented the CSO music director from leading the orchestra on the three-week Asian tour that starts this week. The surgery “went smoothly and he is already resting comfortably,” said the CSO. Muti is expected to go home tomorrow.
