Lieder aficionados have a rare opportunity to hear one of the finest Schubert interpreters currently before the public Sunday evening when Matthias Goerne will perform the composer’s great song-cycle Die schöne Müllerin. The German baritone’s Ravinia lieder recitals have invariably been season highlights—his Schumann and Mahler program last summer notched No. 2 on CCR’s Top Ten Performances of 2013—and with Christoph Eschenbach at the keyboard, this event is self-recommending. Concert time is 7 p.m. at Symphony Center. cso.org; 312-294-3000.

Those looking for the operatic path less trodden beyond Barber and Butterfly could do no better than getting to the Vittum Theater (1012 N. Noble) sometime in the next week. The enterprising Vox 3 Collective will be presenting Carl Nielsen’s rarely heard comedy Maskarade tonight through January 25 as part of their ongoing Festival of Danish Art and Culture. vox3.org/festival
