Musicians from Ravinia’s Steans Institute will perform in Cuba  next week, one of the first U.S. chamber ensembles to visit the communist Caribbean nation.

The group will perform 6 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Basílica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís in Havana as part of Festival de Música de Cámara. The program will be Haydn’s Piano Trio in E flat major, David Ludwig’s Aria Fantasy and Schubert’s String Quartet in G major.

“How proud and excited I am that these extraordinarily talented players from Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute will have such a unique experience as cultural ambassadors,” said Ravina CEO Welz Kauffman in a statement released by the festival. “RSMI has always been international, with faculty and fellows hailing from 65 countries. This Cuban trip deepens Ravinia’s connection to the rest of the world, and helps us spread the classical conversation.”

The program will also be performed 8 p.m. Saturday at Bennett Gordon Hall at Ravinia, as well as at dates in Boston, New York, Stamford and Providence. ravinia.org.
