Jaap van Zweden has bowed out of this week’s Chicago Symphony Orchestra concerts due to a recurring shoulder injury, said his representative, Mary Lou Falcone. The Dutch conductor has been advised not to travel by his doctor.

Donald Runnicles will replace van Zweden on the podium, with a partial program change. Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 remains on the second half , while Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto will be performed by concertmaster Robert Chen in place of the originally scheduled Bartok Rhapsodies for violin.  cso.org; 312-294-3000.
