Riccardo Muti has withdrawn from his two weeks of February subscription concerts with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra following surgery after a hip injury.

A CSO spokeswoman said Tuesday night that Muti had suffered a hip injury in Europe after a “minor accident” following the orchestra’s recent Asian tour.  Asked if Muti had broken his hip, the CSO said no but would not provide any further details.

Guest conductors will be announced shortly for the CSO programs of February 11-20. In addition,  Muti’s concert of Haydn’s Seven Last Words with CSO members scheduled for February 19 at Holy Name Cathedral has been postponed.

Really sad news, and not the first time a hospital visit has kept our Maestro away.
