Chicago’s chamber music ensembles made out like bandits in the Grammy’s classical nominations, which were announced Tuesday.

Three of the five nominees for the Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble category are local bands, and all are receiving their first Grammy nominations. The Spektral Quartet was recognized for its “Serious Business” disc. They will compete with the Lincoln Trio, nominated for its “From Our Homelands album, and Third Coast Percussion, which received a nod for its Steve Reich recording.

To make it even more of a hometown thing, both the Lincoln Trio and Third Coast Percussion CDs are releases on Jim Ginsburg’s Chicago-based Cedille Records label.

Though the Chicago Symphony Orchestra received no nominations this year, it was featured in the Best Contemporary Classical Composition category for Mason Bates’s Anthology Of Fantastic Zoology, performed by the CSO under Riccardo Muti.

The winners will be announced February 12, 2017.
