Declan McGovern will take over as Music of the Baroque’s new executive director July 10.

Music of the Baroque’s new executive director will be Declan McGovern. McGovern’s most recent position was at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra where he was vice-president of orchestral operations and general manager.

The announcement was embargoed for Thursday but a local newspaper broke the embargo early.

“I am thrilled to be moving to one of America’s great music cities to work with one of Chicago’s great musical treasures,” said McGovern in a statement released by MOB. “I am delighted to help steer Music of the Baroque’s ever fruitful journey toward the highest artistic and audience achievements over the coming years.”

After a long association with the BBC in Belfast and London as editor and producer, the Irish administrator served as general manager of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and chief executive of the Ulster Orchestra.

McGovern will begin his new position July 10. He succeeds Karen Fishman, who is retiring after 18 years as MOB executive director.
