In recent seasons Music of the Baroque has offered some choice rarities among its more populist 17th- and 18th-century repertoire. This coming week is no exception with Jane Glover leading MOB’s premiere performances of Handel’s Esther.

MOB has corralled a strong lineup of soloists for Handel’s 1718 oratorio, which tells of the Jewish orphan Esther who becomes Queen of Persia and saves her people from the villain Haman. Soprano Heidi Stober stars in the title role with tenors Nicholas Phan and Colin Ainsworth and baritone Christòpheren Nomura in support.

Performances are 3 p.m. Sunday at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 27 at the Harris Theater. baroque.org
