Iestyn Davies is currently appearing in Lyric Opera’s Ariodante as Polinesso, a villainous role made even more odious by a tawdry Eurotrash production.

One can catch the gifted English countertenor in happier environs this weekend when Davies performs a concert with Haymarket Opera Company. The program will include two Bach cantatas (No. 54 “Widerstehe doch der Sünde” and No. 170 “Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust”) along with George Muffat’s Sonata da camera No. 5 and Telemann’s Suite in D Major for viola da gamba and strings, with Craig Trompeter as soloist.

Performance time is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Old St. Patrick’s Church, 700 W. Adams. haymarketopera.org; 312-898-7446
