Muti will open his first season as music director with a month-long residency in September. In addition to his subscription weeks, the Italian maestro’s first month will also offer several free events and programs as part of “México 2010,” a citywide celebration in honor of the centennial of the Mexican Revolution and 200th anniversary of Mexican independence.

As part of the opening festivities, the Women’s Board of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will host a Symphony Ball on Saturday, October 2.  Muti will lead a concert featuring Rossini’s Overture to William Tell, Liszt’s Les préludes and Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with Anne-Sophie Mutter as soloist. The concert will be followed by dinner and dancing in Millennium Park.
