Anne Schwanewilms has withdrawn from the Lyric Opera’s production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro due to a persistent bronchial infection, the company announced Tuesday afternoon.

Amanda Majeski, a first-year member of the Ryan Opera Center and Schwanewilms’ cover, performed the role of the Countess Tuesday night and will do so again on Friday.

Nicole Cabell, seen earlier this season in the Lyric’s acclaimed production of The Elixir of Love, will sing the role for the final six performances March 15-27. Cabell has been released by the Metropolitan Opera, where she is currently singing Musetta in La Boheme, to take on the role of the Countess in Chicago.

It was evident on opening night of the Mozart production March 1 that Schwanewilms was suffering from some vocal indisposition, a condition that did not improve in the intervening two performances.
