Violinist Nicola Benedetti will perform in Brahms’ Double Concerto Friday night at Ravinia.

One could hardly wish for more user-friendly summer programming than that served up by the Ravinia Festival this weekend.

A trio of young soloists will be stage front in two programs with Christoph Eschenbach leading the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. On Friday night at 8 p.m. Nicola Benedetti and Leonard Elschenbroich will share solo duties in Brahms’ “Double” Concerto for violin and cello. Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 will complete the program.

Erik Schumann will be the solo protagonist 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Eric Wolfgang Korngold’s uber-melodic Violin Concerto. Music of Dvořák will flank the concerto with Eschenbach and the CSO performing the Czech composer’s Carnival Overture and Symphony No. 8.
