The Lyric Opera of Chicago raised $482,465 in its annual radio marathon last weekend on WFMT.
“We are deeply grateful to our friends at WFMT for making Operathon possible for more than three decades,” said Anthony Freud, Lyric’s general director, in a statement released by the company. “It is an outstanding collaboration.”
While the company said the amount exceeded its goal of $450,000, this year’s Operathon didn’t match the even half-million raised in 2011, a record for this event.
The money goes to support Lyric Opera’s education and community-engagement programs, which serve more than 135,000 children, adults, and seniors in the Chicago area each year.
