Steven Isserlis

Steven Isserlis’s Chicago appearances have been infrequent in recent years but Friday night the University of Chicago Presents series offers a fine opportunity to experience the British cellist’s outstanding artistry. The concert will present a genuinely balanced duo with the estimable Gilmore Award winner Kirill Gerstein as pianist. The wide-ranging program offers both Brahms cello sonatas as well as Bartok’s Rhapsody No. 1 and music of Liszt and Busoni. Concert time is 7:30 p.m. at Mandel Hall. chicagopresents.uchicago.edu; 773-702-2787.
