Esa-Pekka Salonen

For the second and final week of his Chicago Symphony Orchestra residency, Esa-Pekka Salonen has assembled an intriguing program of four rarely heard works, including two by his compatriot Jan Sibelius. Salonen will lead the CSO in the Finnish composer’s Symphony No. 7 and tone poem Pohjola’s Daughter. CSO creative consultant Yo-Yo Ma will be the solo protagonist in Lutoskawski’s enigmatic Cello Concerto, and Salonen will close the evening with Tchaikovsky’s Dante-inspired Francesca da Rimini. Performances take place 8 p.m. Thursday, 1:30 p.m. Friday, and 8 p.m. Saturday. cso.org; 312-294-3000.
