Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” will be performed in Music of the Baroque’s 2014-15 season.

Music of the Baroque will offer eight programs in its 2014-15 season centered on Baroque and Classical-era repertory.

Principal guest conductor Nicholas Kraemer will open MOB’s 44th season with Mozart’s Requiem October 19-20, one of only two programs he will direct. The lineup will also include Mozart’s Symphony No. 36 “Linz” and Beethoven’s Elgischer Gesang and Haydn’s Te Deum. Kraemer’s other program (February 22-23) will offer a mix of orchestral and concertante music by Telemann, Purcell, Bach, Handel and Vivaldi.

Jane Glover conducts four programs next season, including Bach’s complete Christmas Oratorio (November 30 and December 1) with soloists Paul Agnew, Yulia Van Doren, Krisztina Szabo, and Roderick Williams.

The new year will lead off with a program titled “Handel’s Rival Queens” featuring arias and duets written for the diva rivals Francesca Cuzzoni and Faustina Bordoni. Susanna Phillips and Elizabeth Futral will be their modern counterparts in this Baroque steel-cage match January 25 and 26 with Glover conducting.

Imogen Cooper returns to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 on March 29 and 30 with Glover also leading the orchestra in Mozart’s “Paris” symphony (No. 31) and Haydn’s “Drumroll” symphony (No. 103).

Next season will also see a new spring a cappella choral concert led by choral director William Jon Gray. In addition to Allegri’s Miserere and Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli, the program will include madrigals by Monteverdi April 19 at Divine Word Chapel in Northbrook.

Gray will also lead Music of the Baroque’s Brass and Choral Holiday programs in music of the 16th and 17th centuries December 18-21.

Glover will close the MOB season May 17 and 18 with Haydn’s Mass in Time of War and Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum.

Judging by the programming, it’s now time to change their name to “Music of the Baroque and Classical.”
