Evgeny Kissin 1

An extraordinarily packed musical week is ahead, which includes Music of the Baroque and the University of Chicago Presents opening their seasons, and Joshua Roman performing the world premiere of his Cello Concerto with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.

Yet even though Evgeny Kissin is only in town for one night with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, any opportunity to catch the celebrated Russian pianist must be grabbed. Kissin performs Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Andrew Davis and the orchestra 8 p.m. Thursday in a bifurcated CSO week with two different programs. The rest of the evening includes Stravinsky’s Divertimento from The Fairy’s Kiss and Davis’s own transcription of Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. cso.org; 312-294-3000.
