The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will be away on an extended Asian tour for the rest of January, but the orchestra is in town for this first week of 2016, leading off the new year with a choice serving of Austro-German cornerstone rep. Jonathan Nott will conduct the CSO in Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture and Richard Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben, with Johannes Moser as soloist in Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C major. Placido Domingo has not performed in a Lyric Opera production since his Siegmund in the company’s last Ring cycle a decade ago. The celebrated Spanish tenor–who turns 75 this month–will make a rare Chicago appearance Saturday night in a concert presented by Lyric Opera. Domingo will be joined by soprano Ana Maria Martinez in a program of popular arias and songs, with Sir Andrew Davis leading the Lyric Opera Orchestra 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Opera House. lyricopera.org; 312-827-5600.
