This week’s Chicago Symphony Orchestra concerts offer a bracing program with two notable debuts.
Latvian violinist Baiba Skride will make her belated CSO bow as solo protagonist in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. And Andres Orozco-Estrada, music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra, will make his local podium debut leading the orchestra in Kodaly’s Dances of Galanta, Ives’ The Unanswered Question and Richard Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra.
Performances are 8 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wheaton College, 8 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. cso.org; 312-294-3000.
