Karen Fishman has announced that she will retire as executive director of Music of the Baroque in June following the end of the current season.

“My 18 seasons with Music of the Baroque have been the highlight of a long and rewarding career,” said Fishman in a statement released by MOB.  “For someone who loves music passionately, the opportunity to be part of such wonderful music-making has been a great privilege—and more fun than anything else I’ve ever done!”

“Karen has been an exceptional leader for Music of the Baroque and a terrific partner with the Board of Directors,” said chairman Stanley Ferguson. “She has steered us safely through challenging economic times with unwavering commitment to artistic excellence. We will miss her greatly.”

Fishman, 68, joined Music of the Baroque in 1999. It was under her aegis that Jane Glover was hired as music director in 2002 along with Nicholas Kraemer as principal guest conductor.

A search committee has been established and Management Consultants for the Arts retained to guide the process. Pamela Baker, chairman of the search committee, said that MOB hopes to have a successor in place by the time of Fishman’s retirement to ensure a smooth transition.
