The final installment in the University of Chicago Presents’ György Ligeti series concludes, fittingly, with the Hungarian composer’s Etudes. This late set of piano studies is regarded as among Ligeti’s finest achievements, and celebrated pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard will perform a selection from Ligeti’s set of 18 Etudes as well as his Musica ricercata. Beethoven’s massive “Hammerklavier” sonata makes up the second half.
