The Seven Last Words of Christ is a singular work in Joseph Haydn’s vast output–a string quartet of seven meditative slow movements reflecting Jesus’s final words on the cross. The composition has long been a Chicago Holy Week tradition, with the Vermeer Quartet making it an annual event for decades.
The Haymarket String Quartet (violinists Rachel Barton Pine and Jeri-Lou Zike, violist Dave Moss and cellist Craig Trompeter), will take up the mantle and mark this Good Friday with a performance of Haydn’s Seven Last Words.
The concert takes place 7:30 p.m. at Old St. Patrick’s Church, 700 W. Adams. The event is currently sold out but additional tickets may become available. haymarketopera.org
