Europe’s leading orchestras come to town infrequently at best. So the visit of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra on Tuesday night is truly a big deal.

The venerable Dutch orchestra has not been to Chicago in a dozen years, and this is a rare opportunity to hear one of the world’s most storied and celebrated symphonic ensembles. Daniel Harding is the guest conductor on this tour, leading a meat-and-potatoes program that will provide ample opportunity to show off the Concertgebouw musicians: Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 and Richard Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben.

Performance time is 7 p.m. Tuesday at Symphony Center. cso.org; 312-294-3000.
