Critic’s Choice
Two new music programs are on tap in this week’s Critic’s Choice. Both take place on Saturday and—with some advance planning—one can make a day of it, hitting both events with a dinner break in between.
The Sound of Silent Film Festival returns for its 14th installment Saturday night. Presented by Access Contemporary Music, the annual event will once again pair experimental contemporary silent films with new musical scores performed live, written by over a dozen leading Chicago composers.

More new music minus the celluloid earlier in the day when The Chicago Ensemble presents the final program of its “Discover America” series, featuring winners of the chamber music competition, including three works by young composers.
