After an absence of a decade Herbert Blomstedt made a most impressive return to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra podium in 2018 in music of Mozart and Beethoven.

Blomstedt, 92, returns to Orchestra Hall Thursday night. Mozart is on the menu again with Bertrand Chamayou as soloist in the Piano Concerto No. 23. The Swedish conductor will lead the orchestra in Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 after intermission. Performances are 8 p.m. Thursday, 1:30 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Saturday. cso.org; 312-294-3000.

Musicians from Marlboro returns to the University of Chicago Presents series this weekend. The lineup include  Handel’s Nel dolce dell’Oblio, Schubert’s Notturno and Brahms’ Piano Trio in B Major. The contemporary outlier is Kate Soper’s Only the words themselves mean what they say. Performance time is 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Mandel Hall. chicagopresents.uchicago.edu
