COT to present season of Chicago premieres

Kamala Sankaram’s Taking Up Serpents will be performed in Chicago Opera Theater’s 20-21 season.

Chicago Opera Theater will once again present three operas in its 20-21 season, all of which will be local premieres.

Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Invisible City of Kitezh will open the season November 21 and 22 at the Harris Theater. Due to worries about Covid-19, the planned fully staged production will be converted to a concert performance. The cast includes Raquel González,Viktor Antipenko and David Cangelosi with Lidiya Yankovskaya conducting.

Kamala Sankaram’s Taking Up Serpents runs at the Studebaker Theatre February 20-28, 2021. Alexandra Loutsion and Michael Mayes star in a newly expanded production.

The season concludes with Daniel Catan’s Il Postino April 17-25. Based upon the Michael Radford film, the production stars Daniel Montenegro and David Lomeli and is to be conducted by Ivan Lopez Reynoso.
