In what may be a harbinger of the 2020-21 music season in Chicago, the sophomore installment of Ear Taxi has been pushed back a year.

Originally scheduled for this fall, the series, which spotlights contemporary music by Chicago-area composers, will now take place in October of 2021.

In a statement released Monday, the festival leadership team said that ongoing concerns about Covid-19 and the difficulty of presenting events in large venues left them with little choice. The festival also cited Gov. J. B. Pritzker’s five-phase mandate, which states that no large public gatherings can take place in Illinois until a vaccine or “highly effective treatment” is available.
