Grant Park Music Fest now open to full capacity; Montgomery premiere cancelled
As anticipated with last Friday’s full reopening of the state of Illinois, one music festival is quickly dropping their previous plans for social distancing and audience limitations.
The Grant Park Music Festival announced Monday that all concerts at the Pritzker Pavilion this summer will be open to full capacity–no ticket lotteries or lawn circles.
In related news the festival announced that the world premiere of Jessie Montgomery’s L.E.S. Characters is cancelled for this summer; the viola concerto has been moved to the 2022 Grant Park season at the composer’s request.
Instead, soloist Masumi Per Rostad will perform Margaret Brouwer’s Viola Concerto with the Grant Park Orchestra. The rest of the July 16-17 program, conducted by Carlos Kalmar, will remain the same with Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5 and Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town.
