Midori to leads Steans Institute at Ravinia
The Ravinia Festival announced this week that Midori would become the next artistic director of the Steans Music Institute, effective this fall.
“I am very much looking forward to being involved in RSMI in this new capacity, “ said the celebrated violinist in a statement released by Ravinia. “Working with young musicians has been central to my career, and this program is one of the most important of its kind in the music field. “
Midori, 51, succeeds Miriam Fried, who has been in that position since 1994.

In other local news, Sarah Curran has been appointed executive director of the UChicago Presents series. She has been serving on an interim basis in the position at the University of Chicago’s venerable concert series since May of 2022.

Also Chicago Opera Theater recently announced the hiring of Lawrence Edelson as the new general director of the company, effective next month. Edelson is currently artistic and general director of American Lyric Theater in New York, a position he will retain alongside the COT post.
