Conlon to replace ailing Haitink with CSO

April is indeed shaping up as the cruelest month, at least in terms of healthy Chicago Symphony Orchestra guest conductors. First it was announced that a recovering Christoph von Dohnanyi would be replaced by Neeme Järvi April 20-23.
Today the orchestra announced that Bernard Haitink is suffering from a stomach virus and has pulled out of next week’s CSO program. Fortunately, James Conlon was available and will take the helm for the March 30-April 1 concerts. The program is unchanged: Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. cso.org; 312-294-3000.
